What is Covid-19

Covid-19 is a new, highly infectious respiratory disease discovered in late 2019 in Wuhan, China. The virus can be transmitted through droplets from a coughing or sneezing person and has an incubation period of 2-14 days.

Once infected, patients may experience mild or serious symptoms which include headaches, fever, sore throat, feeling tired, dry cough, and diarrhoea. In severe cases, an infected person might complain of chest pains, shortness of breath and an inability to speak or move.

The virus can infect anyone regardless of their age and position in society. It is especially lethal to people with advanced age and other underlying health issues like diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. These members of our society are at a higher risk of developing serious health complications when infected with Covid-19.

As a global pandemic, the virus has everyone talking and afraid for their lives. With millions of people infected and hundreds of thousands dead around the world, the virus is taking more than we would ever wish to give.

Given that the virus is highly transmittable, health experts have advised people to maintain social distance. This is why many people are working from home to minimize the risk of getting infected.

To aid during these difficult times, Techsuite is providing a platform where skilled professionals and technicians will not miss work. Also, home and business owners can comfortably hire qualified technicians from the comfort of their homes or offices.

To prevent ourselves from catching the virus and spreading it, we all need to learn how to protect ourselves from the Corona Virus. How can you as a technician give professional services without putting yourself or the client(s) at risk?

How do I protect myself from the Corona Virus?

The good news is you can protect yourself from Corona Virus Disease despite its highly infectious state. By maintaining high levels of hygiene and safe distancing yourself from friends and colleagues, you stand a chance of not contracting and spreading it.

It is, therefore, advisable that you frequently wash your hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds. Ensure you wash palms, the back of your hands, as well as your fingernails to clean off all viruses and harmful bacteria from your hands. You can also use an alcohol-based sanitizer.

Meanwhile, when interacting with friends and colleagues, maintain a social distance of one meter apart as the infected droplets are too heavy to travel that far. Also, avoid handshakes and hugs and always wear a mask. Additionally, refrain from touching the face to reduce the spread of the virus. Limit smoking too since it weakens your lungs.

Moreover, it would be best to stay and work at home. However, if your work does not permit that, ensure you avoid touching surfaces that are in contact with a lot of people and sanitize often.

How to Handle Covid-19 as a Technician

With most people working from home and staying indoors, your services as a technician will come in handy now more than ever.

A client might call you to fix an electric short, repaint a house, and repair a broken pipe or refrigerator. How then will you handle yourself during this global pandemic?

Below are a few pointers.

  1. Wear a clean pair of overalls and carry an organized toolbox will be a relief to you and your client. Like any other profession, you need to look presentable while going to your client’s home since that is your new office. Also, ensure you carry all the tools you need for the job.
  2. Once you get to the client’s home, ensure you clean or sanitize your hands before getting into their house. Observing these hygiene levels will prove to your client that you value their health as well as your own. However, avoid over sanitizing as it might taint your good intentions.
  3. Always wear a mask when working and interacting with clients. Like any other safety gear, your mask has currently become a safety gear. The mask you wear should not necessarily be new. There are, after all, reusable masks. However, it should be clean. Do not approach a client with a dirty mask
  4. Maintain a social distance of about one and a half meters apart. You can do this by working from outside if the situation allows.

The point of these precautions is to make sure that you do everything possible to protect both yourself and the client(s)
